Our School Day

Our Day

The school day starts at 8.50am and finishes at 3.15 pm.  School gates open at 8.40am and cloakroom doors open at 8.50am. All children need to be in school, in their classroom by 9.00am. The register is taken at 9.00am everyday.

Our Nursery sessions are:

Mornings 8.30am to 11.30am

Afternoons 12.30pm to 3.30pm

 Full days 8.30am – 3.30pm

Nursery collection is from 3.15pm if you are collecting siblings as well.

Break Time

Children in Nursery and Reception have outdoor provision as part of their learning timetable and therefore there are no specific breaktimes.

KS1 (Year 1 and 2)  - 10.15-10.30am

KS2 (Years 3, 4 and 5) 10.30-10.45am and Year 6 10.45-11.00am

Lunchtime

Nursery 11.30-12.30- The children eat their lunch in the setting and use the Nursery playground for playtime.

Reception - 11.30-12.15 -The children eat their lunch in the hall and then use the Reception outdoor area for playtime

KS1 - 11.30-12.15 - The children eat their lunch in the hall and then play in separate, designated playground space

KS2 - 12.15-1.00 - The children eat their lunch in the hall and then play in separate, designated playground space

Circle Time

Each session after lunch the children have a dedicated Circle Time session. This supports the children to share positives and talk about any issues or problems they might have had. Class Teachers support children in the session.

Mindfulness

Each afternoon session includes a 5 or 10 minute mindfulness session. This supports the children to look after their mental wellbeing and provides a calm start to afternoon learning.

Afternoon Break

Children in KS1 have an afternoon break of 15 minutes at around 2.15pm. This may change if they are working on subjects such as computing or working with our PE Coach.

Drop off and collection

School gates open at 8.40am and there is a 20 minute drop-off period. Cloakroom doors open at 8.50am. Parents are encouraged to bring their child/ren to the cloakroom door. The Teacher is available at the door to pass on any information and to greet the children. Children are encouraged to be independent and to enter the cloakroom on their own, hang up their bag and coat and to enter the classroom. Some older children like to walk to their classroom on their own.

Can we ask that Parents/Carers supervise young children on the school site. If older children are walking to school on their own or waiting on their own they must not play games or use any of the play equipment.

At the end of the day, school gates open at 3.10pm and the bell for the end of the day goes at 3.15pm.

If you need to see a member of the Office Team , then you can call into the main school area. You can also send an email to: office@churwellprimary.org.uk and the team will get back to you.

If you need to speak to the Teacher, you can arrange this with them. At the start and the end of the day they are focused on ensuring that children are safeguarded and go home safely with their grown-up.

Getting to school

To get to and from school, walking is definitely the best option. Our school is located near small, residential roads and parking is at a premium. If you do drive, please park carefully and considerately so that we do not block driveways and that emergency vehicles can use the roads.
