Churwell Primary School

Learn, Aspire, Achieve

Churwell Primary School

Churwell Primary School is located in the village of Churwell, close to Morley on the outskirts of Leeds. It has excellent access from the M62/M1 motorways. It has pleasant grounds with long distance views.

Our school offers a superb educational environment with facilities that include secure school grounds, including a sports field and a number of playgrounds. There is a newly refurbished computer suite and a library designed to encourage and develop the love of reading.  There is a training room that is used to train our staff and staff from other schools. Our excellent facilities and resources ensure that we provide a broad and balanced curriculum of the highest quality.

Our Ethos

At Churwell Primary School we want children, parents, and all staff and governors to feel welcome and part of our school family.

Our vision is to prepare children to meet the challenges of life with confidence with the desire to:

Learn, Aspire and Achieve

Learn - everyday - never stop learning

Aspire and dream big

Achieve for the future

Our mission is to nurture children so that they can:

  • be successful
  • acquire skills and knowledge
  • develop responsible and positive attitudes

Our aims are to:

  • To provide a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum
  • To provide a happy, stimulating and stable environment where every child feels safe and secure.
  • To develop a sense of caring, respect and courtesy towards our school, community and our environment.
  • To develop a  strong partnership between home and school.
  • To foster high expectations of responsibility and behaviour.
  • To ensure all children have equality of opportunity.
  • To ensure all children develop personally, morally and spiritually, gaining respect and tolerance for other religions and cultures

School Partnerships and Clubs

As our school is set in the heart of the community we are constantly striving to further develop the partnership between school, parents and the community. We very much value the contribution made by parents and members of the community. Parents are actively encouraged to be involved in the life of the school and we are very encouraged by the support and interest that our parents take in their child’s school life. It is this partnership between home and school which is a major influencing factor on a child’s progress and development. At Churwell, parental involvement is encouraged in a number of ways.

Churwell is used on a weekly basis by a karate group. The school has established good working relationships with other schools through involvement in the Morley Family of Schools, sports and international events. Before the children transfer to their high school, we work with the Year 7 staff to make sure that the children are prepared for and happy to embark upon the next phase of their education.

We offer a wide range of extra-curricular clubs at Churwell, as we feel this is an important part of a child’s development. The clubs on offer provide children with the chance to experience sports, music, arts, language and computers outside the curriculum. We currently offer on a rolling programme throughout the year to different year groups the following clubs:

Football, rugby, netball, and athletics

KS2 Choir, Recorders and KS1 Sing along choir

Homework club

Multi Skills Club and Change for Life Club run by TSC Sport

Total Dance Morning club

Lego Club

KS1 Art Club

We believe that these clubs offer children opportunities which they wouldn’t usually experience, which in turn widens their life experiences.

All Stars Before and After School Club

We run our own school led provision, this was new from January 2019.

Current session times:

After school until 5.15pm or 6.00pm.

Our 8.15am Breakfast Club runs from 8.15am for children in Year 2-6
