Our Year 5 residential to Whitby is on Wednesday 30 March to Friday 1 April 2016. The children will be staying in the Youth Hostel next to Whitby Abbey. The Hostel has bunk beds and en-suite facilities to most rooms. The biggest rooms can take up to 8 children but most are in groups of 4 - 6 children per room.
The Hostel will be used as a base to explore the town centre and harbour area. Visits have been arranged to Pannett Park Museum, the Abbey, the harbour area, beach and a trip along the coast on a tourist boat.

Whitby Diary 2016
Wednesday 30th March
We arrived at 11am, the journey was good and we enjoyed the views as the coach drove along the costal roads. The sun has been shining but we have had a bit of rain; it has been a typical day at the seaside- wind, rain and sunshine- we even spotted a Churwell rainbow!
We enjoyed lunch outside in the sunshine and then ventured down the 199 steps. Some of the group started their town trail while some of us went on a boat ride. The sea was choppy in parts but we enjoyed the beautiful scenery which looked amazing against the stormy sky.
The children have enjoyed some time playing on the beach; some made sand sculptures, others dug holes and some children hunted for shells.
We are back at the Hostel now; the children are very excited about finding their rooms and getting settled in. We will have tea at about 5.30pm and then enjoy some evening activities.
After evening activities the children got ready for bed and then enjoyed a hot chocolate and biscuits before watching a slideshow of the photographs from the day- there were some funny ones! We then did some awards and sang 'Happy Birthday' to Nash Newton as he was celebrating his 10th birthday.
The children went to sleep...eventually!
Thursday 31st March
It has been an amazing day; sunshine and blue skies- a lovely day at a British seaside. After a hearty breakfast we set off down the steps to the Captain Cook museum to learn about the house he stayed in whilst he was an apprentice, his journeys and countries he discovered. The children then enjoyed lunch in the sunshine at Pannett Park before having some fun on the play equipment. The afternoon was spent at the Abbey; looking carefully the children sketched different parts of this magnificent ruin and we learnt about it's history. The children also enjoyed looking at different parts of the Abbey and working out what would have happened there.
After finishing the Town Trail the children then had the traditional ice-cream at the Bandstand before having some more fun in the sand on the beach.'
After tea the children headed off in two groups for the legendary Ghost Walk. We were thrilled with spooky stories and some really interesting facts about the streets and town of Whitby.
Again we enjoyed hot chocolate and a slideshow before settling down, much quicker than the night before, to bed!
Everybody slept really well as the sunshine, fresh sea air and the activities had worn us all out!
Friday 1st April
A few tired faces this morning! We are going to have breakfast, get packed up and the go down into the town to complete our surveys and questionnaires. It is dry but a bit overcast today- don't think there will be as much sunshine... But aslong as it doesn't rain we will be fine ! Of course the children get to spend their money this morning- a highlight for some as they have been window shopping for the past few days!
Apologies - I had put an update on the website last night but it hadn't loaded! Mrs Barson
We really have had an amazing time; the children have been a credit to our school. So many members of the public spoke to our staff and said how well behaved and polite our children are. Well done year 5!
Thank you to the staff who went away with the children and worked so well to support the children; it was hard work but there were lots of laughs along the way!
Year 5 Whitby Selfie Gallery!
There were a lot of children (and staff!) ready to pose and take a Whitby selfie!
A beautiful evening in Whitby. The Youth Hostel and The Abbey.
